Patrick Swayze

An American dancer, singer, actor and songwriter became well-known in the 1980’s through his involvement in films. His professional debut as a dancer was as ‘Prince Charming’ in Disney on Parade. In 1987, he starred in the movie, ‘Dirty Dancing’, for which he is best remembered. In the following years, he had many more roles in movies and a lead role in the TV mini-series, ‘North and South’.

Was an unforgettable pop star of the 80’s, a dancer and songwriter. He is regarded as being one of the most significant musical artists of the 20th century. He is popularly known as the “King of Pop”. In 1964, he began his professional career as a member of the Jackson 5, with his four brothers. In 1971 he began his career as a solo artist. He is legendary for popular dance moves such as the moonwalk, crotch grab and robot. With estimated record sales of over 350 million, Michael Jackson is reputed to be one of the best-selling recording artists of all time.

Anna Pavlova

A Russian prima-ballerina. Anna is still considered one of the world’s most renowned dancers, even though her first performance took place in 1899. As she was small and thin and didn’t have the sturdier look of the ballet dancers of those days, she is known for changing the ballerina look into the typical one of today.

To become the famous dancer she is known as, she had many difficult years of training. Her long limbs, thin ankles and severely arched feet caused her many difficulties in dancing. She overcame this impediment by copious practice.

She is best known for her role in the solo dance, The Dying Swan.

Fred Astaire

A jack of all trades in the entertainment industry, was an American dancer, actor, singer, choreographer and television presenter. However, he is most well-known for his dancing in the film industry with Ginger Rogers, his co-star in ten Hollywood musicals. Other high points in his dancing career were the two films he made with another celebrated dancer, Rita Hayworth.

In 1999, he was proclaimed to be the fifth greatest male star of Hollywood cinema in the last 100 years.

His dancing career began in 1906 with his sister, Adele as his partner.

Fred Astaire is reputed to be the most renowned of all the most famous dancers from around the world.

Mikhail Baryshnikov

A Soviet-born Russian ballet dancer who defected to Canada, then to the United States in 1974 to further his career. He is known as the best male ballet dancer still living.

His dancing career began at eleven years of age in 1960. He overcame early discrimination in dancing circles because of his shorter-than-normal height for a dancer, to become the principal dancer of the American Ballet Theatre in 1974. He became the main performer of the New York City Ballet in 1978.

Chris Brown

An American dancer, rap singer and actor, began his career in 2002 at 13 years old. He is most renowned for his singing and dance moves which were inspired by Michael Jackson. His dancing talent has even been favourably compared to that of Michael Jackson.

A major high point in his career was winning the Grammy Award for his album, F.A.M.E. in 2011.
